Soldier Dogs: The Untold Story of America’s Canine Heroes,” by Maria Goodavage

Author, Maria Goodavage discusses her book. She has opened up a whole new world for dog lovers in her intrepidly reported, richly illustrated, heartwarming account of the dogs who play an increasingly vital role in our military efforts. Her book describes the training that the dogs undergo and the extraordinary bond between military dogs and their handlers.  These amazing dogs give so much of themselves in order to keep our troops safe in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.  She told Renee and Karen that after Osama Bin Laden was killed, it was reported that a dog had been involved in that operation.  The dog’s name is Cairo.  To order Maria’s book, click on this link: www.soldierdogs.com.

Retired Racing Greyhounds

Renee and Karen talk to Michael McCann, President of The Greyhound Project. April is “National Greyhound Adoption Month.” Michael told our listeners about what it’s like to live with these wonderful and oftentimes shy dogs.  He describes them as “couch potatoes” and excellent dogs for older people to adopt.  If you are a low-energy type of person and you don’t want to be exercising your dog all day, consider adopting a Greyhound.  Click on this link if you want to learn more about adopting a greyhound.
